I learned about the power of investing following a successful career in the insurance industry as a licensed agent. With a strong, unrelenting desire to run my own business, I eventually gained several more licenses and certifications, eventually running my own office as Financial Advisor.
Still wanting to make a more meaningful impact, I opened my own franchise with my high-school sweetheart & husband, Rocky.
After we established this business, I had an epiphany. I realized that after nearly 2 decades of conversations with women, in particular, who were grappling with financial or other difficulties, the majority that I had spoken with were really missing something. These women (and the financial/investment industry as a whole) were putting the cart before the horse. Let me explain.
Women, by in large, face considerably different challenges than men. I had been teaching this in my Wealthy Women classes for years. Women are often the primary caregivers for their children, their spouses, their parents, and even their in-laws. Women would have smaller retirement accounts, less time off, and lower salaries due to time away from their careers. Plus women have less time to receive a critical education on finance & investments in the first place.
While women often handle the day to day household budget and checking account, they often choose to delegate the long-term finance & investment role to someone else, if at all. The reasons for this varies, but most often women, understandably, find that they have no more of themselves to give - both to themselves and to their future. It was frustrating to see so many women settle, because they saw no other way.
Meanwhile, our own life was about to get a major shakeup. Rocky and I felt like we had it all - self employed, happily married, living in our dream home we built, traveling, and working hard in our successful business. Then, after 10 years of marriage, Rocky's mother passed away from an aggressive brain tumor, just before our first baby girl was born.
While one of us became lost, the other was reconnected to their faith in a deeper way. It re-ignited my thirst for learning, and prompted me to dive into neuroscience, metaphysics, religious practices, spiritual gurus, & life coaching. A decade later we arrived home as Catholics:)
I was excited to eventually gain my coaching certification, which enabled me to offer mindset coaching - a key missing ingredient that I was unable to offer my clients before. I also used this new knowledge to improve our workaholic lives that were starting to impact Rocky and I negatively. Once I set in motion all the practices I had learned, Rocky and I started to transform our careers. We learned how to become more efficient, how to delegate & scale while working 3 days a week in the multi-million dollar business we designed, so we could create a life of true fulfillment.
